Hi,
Our family just bought in Wylie. When we visited we noticed commercials promoting various electric companies. We've never lived in a place with so many options. The former owners used Champion Electric and Atmos Gas service. Would any of you have a better/different recommendation for gas or electric? Also - we've heard about brutal summer electric bills in Dallas. We had good luck with a fixed rate plan for electricity in Phoenix but wonder if people find this worth it in Dallas.

Last question - have any of you experienced problems with TV satellite service in Dallas due to weather? I'm from the Midwest and hear horror stories from my family. This is my first move back to Midwest like weather - or any weather to speak of - in 20 years.

Thanks, in advance, for the help!

You do not have a choice with gas, but the link below can help you choose an electric provider.

Get a plan with a contract with a fixed rate, and don't go month-to-month on a variable rate plan. Make sure you renew or get a new plan once your contract ends. Some companies are better than others about notifying you of renewal options (Tara was very good about this with me - and in fact, worked with me on renewal to find a plan without a monthly base charge and a slightly higher rate since my usage is low).

Wow - OK. Thanks seat21d. Will keep that in mind.

I'm sure it becomes common-place after living there awhile but coming from cities where there is no choice, looking at the link Aceraceae sent, the choices are mind-boggling. Only thing I know for sure if fixed rate and not TXU (I've read it's more expensive.) Besides that - seems overwhelming.

While I can't quantify "more than they should be", I know I'm paying 3 cents per kwh less than I was when I lived under the government electric utility in Austin. I'm enjoying this freedom to choose!

When I was looking to renew, Garland electric was cheaper than any other option I could choose. Garland residents dont get to choose.
I do think this deregulation causes electricity to cost more b/c the middleman is now making money as well.
