Moving to Lakewood and would love to know what the options are for outdoor pools in the area. Public or private. Preferably child friendly (3&7), with a good social setting (hoping to easily meet people this summer).

- Lakewood Country Club - great atmosphere. A lot of people do a social membership just for the pool.
- KC pool - located off of NW hwy. I believe there is a multi-year waiting list, but I haven't checked on it in a while.
- Tietze park - located off of Skillman. City of Dallas pool. Fun and cheap.

There is a semi-public pool called the Federation of Eagles (FOE). It is located on the east side of the lake. You can gain entry for a small fee. We went once, but it wasn't a super environment for little kids.

Good luck. I am sure even without a pool, you will love Lakewood!

It won't help you much for the next couple of years, but the new Lakewood Y will have a pool. They recently raised the funds to include it with the initial construction.

I thought White Rock YMCA already had a pool? Are they building another Y in Lakewood?

Lake Highlands YMCA has an indoor pool with a waterslide. I believe if you have a membership at Lake Highlands you can also use the facilities at White Rock, and vice versa.

The Park Cities YMCA has two pools, an indoor lap/exercise pool and a smaller outdoor pool. I don't know if they have free swim there or not, as I understand the UP Municipal Pool is far more popular for Park Cities residents.

WR Y has been demolished to make way for Arboretum Village. That entire corner was demo'd to the beams.
A new Y is under construction at the site of a church that was across the street and a block up Gaston.

Right. The Lakewood Y is in a temporary location across the street in the 2-story shopping center. The new site will be a couple of blocks west on Gaston.

Thanks so much for the information! I emailed the membership chair at the lakewood country club to find out how much the social membership is. Does anyone have a clue how much one is? I also looked up the KC Club and it's a 3-4 wait list (crazy!!). Looks like Tietze may be our spot this summer..). Looking forward to moving to the neighborhood. Think I'm going to really like Lakewood.

If you can swing it, and they are your kind of people, I would do Lakewood social membership at the club. As for the KC, the little known secret is that once a year they auction off a few of those memberships. You may overpay, but you can get in. Congrats to moving to a nice area of town.

A KC club membership was just auctioned off in the Lakewood Spring Carnival fundraiser. It went for $5540. You skip the 4 yr waiting list, but that only covered 2014 fees and then you pay regular member fees starting in 2015 (not sure how much those are). Lakewood CC Social membership requires an initiation fee of around ~$7500 or $8000 and monthly dues are ~$275-$300. I think there may be a waiting list, but it is shorter (ie definitely <1 yr). If you are looking for something for this summer, you'll probably need to try one of the other options, or find a neighbor with a pool and invite yourselves over!

Who knew it would be so expensive and difficult to join a pool!! I've been spoiled with my New England pool club with $1000 a year membership). Thinking first order of business once we get settled will be to locate neighbors with a pool and invite them to my house warming party!!

Thanks so much for all the suggestions. This website has been a tremendous source of information for us as we get ready for our big move.
