Hi,
My husband and I just got back from a house hunting trip to Dallas. He will be working in the Irving Blvd. area of Dallas. We have lived previously in the DC area so the traffic isn't an issue. Our girls are 9 & 14 so great schools are a must. We would like to stay around $300k or under, and be in the Frisco/Plano area as we liked that the most. Both daughters do All Star cheerleading so we want to be close to the gym. ANY and ALL help is appreciated

That's quite a commute, and it is on a toll road (DNT) so keep that in mind. If you are really set on Plano or Frisco, get a house as close to DNT as you can. But that might be a challenge in Plano as some of the most expensive homes in the city are off DNT. You're more likely to find something in Frisco closer to your budget and close to the tollroad, but that adds on to commute time and tolls.

Wow, hope you tell your husband how awesome he is to be willing to sign up for that kind of an awful commute in order for your daughters to live close to the cheerleading gym! Most families would prioritize the career over an extracurricular that likely won't even end up with a college scholarship....

Focus on Plano if you're hell-bent on living that far north. Frisco to Irving blvd is easily 1 hour each direction on a $10/day Tollroad.

If you're open to other suggestions, consider looking in Richardson ISD (ultimately feeding to Pearce or Richardson HS) or the Lake Highlands neighborhood in northeast Dallas (Richardson ISD). Both are within your budget and will half your husband's commute time compared to Frisco while giving you good access to 75 to get to the gym.

Do you already have a gym picked out? Because there are several outstanding competitive cheerleading gyms in the area that would also mean less commute for hubby. For example Cheer Athletics is on 190 just east of 75, you could be in Plano ISD, live in Richardson and have less of a commute. Or even live in Richardson, and the drive to CA still isn't bad.

Obviously career & schools ARE the priority, however being close to activities are also important. (FYI cheer scholarships are a reality at the level the children are at) We liked the Frisco area the most after touring a huge portion of Dallas, but aren't opposed to other areas. I thought this forum was for information not judgement. MurphyPl1, we are looking at Cheer Athletics I have looked online at Richardson homes, how often do they rezone the school lines ? The Plano schools looked great as well.

Plano 75093 ticks all check marks, commute, schools, cheer gyms and proximity to private schools.

Not easy but not impossible if expectations are realistic.

They won't rezone ISD lines unless something major happens (like aliens invading the planet) because of the taxing nightmare that would ensue.

So there's a strip of Richardson in Collin County that zones to Plano ISD. Those do rezone schools within districts periodically, but we just went thru a major retweaking a few years ago and I don't expect much to change in the near future.

You may get assigned to a diffrent school within the same district but never to another district. Town boundaries aren't the one that matters for schooling, school district boundaries are independent.
