I've do some searches on here and heard Highland Homes, Drees, David Weekly and Darling home are good solid builder. Just wondering if Standard Pacific any good? There are not much talk about this builder so does that overall it's also as good as the others?

I'm looking for either Frisco/McKinney area. 450K-550K. Highland is good in that price range but seems Standard Pacific offer more square footage with the same price other are offering. How will u rate those builders? With my budget I can get a 4000+ sq ft house in Standard Pacific (Mckinnry) and all the others are around 3000 or it doesn't even fit into my price range. I also need to factor the cost of upgrading so I don't wanna go above 470K on the base price of a house alone.

Are you dead set on a new build? Because you can probably find some pre-existing homes by some of the better builders in your price range that have the updates you are looking for. Highland has built all over Frisco/McKinney.

FWIW, I think you get what you pay for. Highland is a fantastic builder and I don't think we would ever buy a house built by anyone else (except maybe Drees or Darling).

In my experience, they have an excellent product and I like their floor plans. They are at least on par with any of the Highland homes I have seen and a lot of the Darling homes, too.

Yes. We only want new build. I've noticed Highland had quite some communities in the area so that's not problem choosing frisco or McKinney.

Thanks. That's what I heard about highland. Quality build. I just need to settle about the smaller size if I'm building with highland because I know I'm going to spend quite a lot on upgrades. With SP I can have a lot bigger than HL.

Are u currently living in a SP home? Their floor plan is very open. Seems spacious. I didn't know about their quality though. On here people only compare drees with highland, darling and David weekly. So I wonder how SP fits into the range.

I think you will be just fine with SP. Highland and other builders listed on this thread are better in terms of customer service and quality of some specific materials including choices in upgrades. They all use the same sub-contractors for wood, concrete pour, etc so go for it. However, don't base you decision on bigger with SP vs. smaller with Highland. Think about lot location, floor plan, etc. Finally, consider what you need vs. what you want? If highland's floorplan and sqft size is what you need (not want) then go with them...

Yes, I live in a SP home and we were looking originally at new construction Darling, Highland, Drees, Weekly, etc. I didnt end up purchasing new so I cant say what the building experience was like but our finishes are on par (or better) than most of the homes in our area. After looking at homes for three years, the extra details and quality of workmanship really stood out over the other middle of the road builders, enough so that I would put them in the same bracket as Highland, Weekly, Drees, etc.

If the location and layout is what you want, I wouldn't hesitate to buy a SP home. I would still consider those other builders, as they have a great product, but I just wanted to give you an opinion on SP.

That is why i wonder how did they determine one builder is 100K more than another builder of the same sq. ft house. Of course the location of the communities did factor into this. But for the same kind of building materials, it made no different building with these builder except the price is a lot higher.

You are right. Of course i WANT it bigger, seems better in resale value. I don't know if it is true. For the communities of HL in McKinney. Overall size of the existing house range from 3600 to 4000+ (2 stories). Hardly any 1 stories. I think my choice there would be a 2 stories around ~3100. I'm just worry if i really need to sell my house later it will come back hurting me since it's like the smallest in the neighborhood. That's also why i look into Standard Pacific as the houses in Mckinney neighborhood is huge. So the house will be on par with anyone else.

Thank you for giving me insight of a SP home. I don't remember which model i looked at SP. But couple of the model is quite spacious. At least what it looks it. Very big open family room and lots of window too.

Bigger isnt always better for resale, it depends on the neighborhood. Once you get over 3,500 or 4,000 sf you are starting to limit your potential buyers. Many people don't want to maintain, heat and cool, clean, etc a 4,000 sf house unless they have a large family and need the space. Also, I couldn't tell from your comment what you were saying about having two stories, but single story homes tend to command a higher price per square foot.
