I have a 1996 Ford Ranger with BI and PD costing $177.57 for six months and added a 1999 Buick Lasabre with the same coverage and the premium for it is $381.96. My question is, why the big difference?

that means it's time to shop around and find out if that's still the best premium you have to pay.

Insurance companies provide a better discount with multiple vehicle on the policy. Premium for each vehicle is separate to indicate which car costs more for the insurance.

You may also ask the company to provide a reason for increase.

Ok here is how it works. They always gives you lower rate to get your business. Then gradually, every 6 months they start increasing the premium by 25 - 60 dollars regardless of you make a claim or not so its very negligible and go unnoticed. So in 2 years it will easily go up by couple hundred dollars. So I always look around every 6 months before I renew. Also you get extra discounts if you come from a different company. So just don't take the crap from these businesses and shop around and be smarter than them. After all, its our money and our choice...
