What are you looking for in a high school? Any specific programs? They are both good schools with a wide variety of offerings. Someone will come along and offer up NMSF numbers and average SAT scores, but if your kid is not a top performer to fall in that group, why not ask about the programs they are interrested in.

heres where the valadactorian/saludactorians from this past year went for college. that might shed some light

West -> Harvard/ Princeton
East -> Harvard/ UT (BHP)
Senior -> Yale/ UTD + UTSW combined program

yeah, in all honesty there is really no right answer as to which school is better. its like choosing between ivy league schools. for instance if you wanted to have your kid to do IB, then East is your only choice. that being said, hopefully your kid is one of those high achieving types or otherwise they'll get lost amongst their 5000 classmates

My son is will be attending 8th grade and interested in Math / Technology / Computer Science areas. We are currently in Irvine, CA and Irvine schools are decent schools. He is a straight A student. I am not sure about the senior high schools programs, just doing my research so that when we move in next summer this information will help me in finalizing the location for the house (Budget ~ 500K).

May be the relevant question should be which high school is good ( Jasper / Renner ...).

My work location will be close to the legacy center ( J.C Penny HQ area). South Frisco and West/Central Plano both are close to my future work location.

I read many threads with extensive discussions comparing Frisco and Plano schools. Frisco has new and shiny houses but it appears Plano schools are rated higher than Frisco.

Regarding Plano schools, they're all very good. Plano's West and Senior are VERY close in terms of average SAT scores, East's results are a little lower but it has an IB program and East is as affluent as West or Senior. Really, you're better off visiting and getting a feel for the neighborhoods to see what you like better, as the differences in school quality are de minimis.

Regarding Frisco vs. Plano schools, that topic is always fun. The short version is that Frisco high schools put up lower SAT scores and the like than Plano schools, even though Frisco as a whole has slightly more affluent demographics than Plano as a whole. That said, Frisco is growing VERY fast (from 6,000 people in 1990 to over 120,000 now, IIRC) and some people will argue that its results are improving.

Frisco schools are pretty good overall, but Plano is probably "pound for pound" the best district in the Metroplex (in that the only districts that put up better results are considerably wealthier). Having said that, some people will disagree and...well, you've read the threads in the past.

HA! My thoughts exactly. I suspected this was a troll post at first ... we'll see.

OP: Would the fact that your stated budget - $500K - will put you in a long, bloody gladiatorial combat for a house in West Plano help you narrow your focus at all?

I can comfortably stretch up to $650K. This research and your advice will help me to prioritize my locations. I am not in favor of bidding wars. I can withdraw and focus on Ruseel Creek and Central Plano or south Frisco if necessary.

East ISN'T as affluent as Sr. or West. Didn't catch that the first time and can't edit it now.

Anyway, they're all good, check real estate listings to see how your budget works and then drive around when you get a chance to determine what areas you like and don't.

Thank you everyone for your comments and advice.

I would be visiting Plano next month to just check out the area, visit some open houses in even though my purchase /move plans are 8 - 10 months away.
