I am planning to relocate to Dallas from Charlotte, NC. I work in the aviation industry and am looking for a area that won't be a long commute to DFW airport. I would like to move into a loft or high rise apartment with a budget of $1200 a month. Also I have a son who will be in high school so I want to find a good school in the area. Can anyone suggest a community or particular area?

The town of Las Colinas sounds perfect for you. Nice developments, very new and close to the airport.

You should look in Euless or Grapevine zoned to CHHS. Very short commute for you and CHHS is a great high school in a great school district. Grapevine High School is really good too- just be careful about the apartment complex if that is the route you go. There are some newer ones off Main St that are really nice but they are $1300 for a 1/1.

No lofts or residential high rises near DFW. There are lofts and high rises in central Dallas, but not going to find a 2br for $1200/mo (and even difficult to find a 1 br for that little). Plus, not zoned to good high schools.

Your wants are at odds with your budget and school needs. If you can deal with just renting an apartment, look in Grapevine or Valley Ranch (zoned to Coppell's excellent schools). Both are close to DFW.

We have one mid-rise loft development in Grapevine:
925mainstreet.com

Your budget will rent a small one, but it does have excellent schools!

Not sure about lofts in that area, but I don't think you would want to do public high school there. Are you willing to pay tuition?
