My husband and I recently relocated to Flower Mound. We've been looking for a church and, so far, haven't had much luck. There are so many around here!

We loved our previous church back in Kansas City. It was non-denominational and was geared more towards the seeker or unchurched. The music tended to be secular (artists like current top 40, U2, Beatles- whatever is relevant to the day's message) with a few contemporary christian songs but hardly any "praise music". There were also dramas or skits. The music and dramas always supported the message. The pastor did a wonderful job of connecting the bible to present-day life.

Outside of the Sunday services we had small/life/journey groups for discussions and connecting within the church community. we also had Wednesday evening services once a month that had praise music and communion.

I've done some internet searches for "seeker" type churches and it seems like that's bad word in North Texas. There's nothing wrong with everyone singing praise music, hands in the air, clapping, etc... it just isn't for us. Does anyone know of a something that would work for us? I'm not adverse to traveling for a church "home".

While this isn't non-denominational, the Uptown contemporary service at Church of the Incarnation in Dallas is very similar to a lot of the traits of the worship service you described above. And, the service is growing so quickly the church just broke ground on a much larger worship space to accommodate the service (right now they've outgrown the chapel and are meeting in a large multi-purpose room). The service's growth has come largely as a result of drawing in seeker types who didn't find a good fit at more evangelical megachurches or stuffy uber-traditional congregations.

If you don't mind saying, where have you visited and what about it didn't fit for you? That may help everyone weed out suggestions. The good news is there are so many different churches close by that you really shouldn't have any problem finding a fit for your family.

So far, we've tried Fellowship Church (Grapevine), Heartland Church (Carrollton), Valley Creek (Flower Mound), and Center Point Church (North Richland Hills).

I love The Village and Matt Chandler is a gifted speaker. His messages are really smart, but if you are looking for something light and easy that won't be it. He preaches the Bible and lays out the truth. I'm struggling to think of a church that uses mainly secular music with less christian music. I've seen churches use a secular song or two when it works with a sermon series, but I don't know anyone that doesn't use worship music. Church is about worship after all - that's why we go

We visited Valley Creek and it didn't click for us either. I thought about visiting Fellowship and Heartland but kept coming back to The Village. It's hard to leave a church you truly love. Good luck!
