Well after looking deeper into apartments and such, its apparent that I have got to bring my car with me and just commute to the areas I like to hang out in. I am now looking in Addison and maybe Ft. Worth? Is Ft. Worth a decent place to live for a year?

Fort Worth is a great town, but you do NOT want to live there and commute to Dallas. On a good day, it's a 30-40 minute drive between the two downtowns. On a bad day, such as we are having this week with all of the ice, it could be well over an hour! Only move to Fort Worth if that's where you will be working.

I work in Addison, and live down the street. It is nice, but nothing outta the ordinary. Typical shopping centers, and such. There are quite a bit of bars and restaurants, but it's your typical chain type of places. You would have to drive, but everything is very close by. You could consider moving to one of the apartments in Addison Circle, there some retail below them and around the corner but it's not SUPER exciting or anything and they can be pricey.

You should be able to find an apartment in Valley Ranch for your budget.....just not a high rise. Look in zip code 75063. Valley Ranch has lots of families and young professionals and some good walking trails. There are plenty of apartments in Irving because its a large area. I suggest you only look in zip code 75063 or 75039.

Now my job is in 75038. Is that a bad area? The apartments I found were wiring 3-4 miles of work.

Apartments in zip code 75038 are generally not desireable; especially if they border Walnut Hill or Beltline. Apartments on Northgate west of MacArthur -- I'd avoid!

Its a really, really good idea if you live EAST of Story Road and Northof Northgate. There are some nice apartments in the Hackberry Creek area not too far from 75038 off of Regency. But they are in zip code 75063.

If you have given up on mid / high-rises, I would suggest looking into 75208. This area has good proximity to downtown, access to public transit. Drawback is it is probably at least a 20 minute commute (not sure about that). I think Zang Triangle is in your price range and will be a quick walk to the new street car that opens in April. The street car will connect to Union Station, which connects all DART rail lines and the TRE. Also, I have heard mostly good things about "Good Space" which is in the same general vicinity.

OP welcome to the Dallas area! Hopefully you and your family will like it here. I would recommend Las Colinas - 75039, Valley Ranch - 75063, Coppell - 75019 or Grapevine. You can also look at the mid-cities area in Hurst, Euless, Bedford. I lived in Valley Ranch and Coppell area for several years and loved it. Regarding 75038 zip code, as a single woman I would make sure that the complex is at the northern edge of that zip code, not too close to 183. Further up MacArthur towards Hwy 114 or 161 would be better areas.

Good luck in your search!
