It's a great town. My husband and I have lived here for 12 years and we love it!
Just want to echo that the area near Parr park is very pretty and has a tiny bit of hill (sadly, nothing like SF), although IIRC a little pricier than much of Grapevine (but compared to the Bay Area, DFW is CHEAP!!). We seriously considered a house just north of Hall-Johnson around there. It fed into Taylor Elementary, which as 4MovingEast has noted is on of the best in GCISD (although most of the schools in that district are very good).

The In-n-Outs are scattered all over DFW, and DFW is a sprawling place (even compared to the Bay Area, which is hardly small). The good news is that commutes in DFW are far easier than there in general.

I'd take issue with "2-3 minutes per mile during rush hour", unless one is specifically going with traffic. My commute takes about 45 minutes door to door and is 26 miles. Part of it is bogged down, but much of it is at the speed limit (~65 MPH). Since the In-n-Outs are generally not right in the midst of employment centers, I'd say 2 minutes/mile and maybe less. Conveniently enough, one of them is located right in Grapevine. Another is near my office, so the commute during rush hour to that one would be ~45 minutes from the area ChristieP has noted.

Be forewarned that scenically, you lose a lot coming from the Bay Area to DFW, but there's no state income tax and as previously noted the housing is MUCH cheaper. As always, everything's a tradeoff.

Grapevine, Coppell, Irving are pretty centrally located with access to many highways easily.

I understand, but it sounds like OP's DH won't be doing that, but rather going hither and yon around DFW.

Agreed. There are commutes where the 2-3 minute per mile rule applies, and many that it does not at all.

Restaurant Locations - In-N-Out Burger

You can enter Grapevine, TX to see the locations of the current restaurants. Grapevine appears to be the perfect location, since most of them are north of Dallas and not in Dallas itself or on the west side of FW.

Traffic in DFW is better than what you saw in California.

Can't help you with a location but I just want to say the in n out here is not as good as back in CA.

Can you ask your husband what's up with that?
