I am moving to Little Elm in 2 weeks.... I was googling and I found an article on a dead 10 ft alligator tied up to a tree in Little Elm.

I understand that Alligators are just about everywhere in East and South Texas and they even occasionally are sighted up in the lakes of DFW area.
It is natural and quite frankly, they do not scare me.... they won't bother you if you don't bother them.

My question, how common are Alligator sightings in Lake Lewisville ? And are they typically in the North where that creek/river flows into the lake ? I know they are probably fairly rare, just curious how rare or do people see the little critters floating around at sunset everynight ?

Its extremely rare to see a gator in the Dallas area. The odds of you seeing one is about the same as being hit by lightning. It usually makes the news when a gator shows up.

I've never seen one up here, we boat a lot too and lived here (except for 13 months) since 1997.

VERY rare for a gator to be spotted this far north and west. But it's happened.

yeah, unless you go looking for them you'll probably never see one, and even then they can still be hard to find, the Joppa preserve in Dallas and parts of Southern Dallas County, do have some alligators though.

nice blog about the Trinity River and Great Trinity Forest.

The below article was the one I was referring too....

Little Elm Community Blog: Little Elm's Alligator Problem

They make it sound like during the mating season of early spring you might see them.

One alligator makes it to the DFW area and all of the sudden the city is over run with Gators...anyone missing their dog?

In all seriousness, Alligators are rare in Dallas as mentioned above. All you're going to find is a different Story on the same 10ft Gator found dead 5-6 years ago. This is absolutely the last thing that a person should worry about moving to Dallas.

Besides a few Alligators are not going to hurt anything. We had plenty in Louisiana and other than the occasional annoyance of one in your pool or on the drilling rig, it was no big deal
