How do you get any work in the garage in summer with no HVAC? (Point: house, neighborhoods)

You can buy a variety of portable AC units and even the Big Box home stores sell them. Just Google search "portable ac unit" an you can see them from a few hundred to a few thousand dollars. There are simple roll around units that plug into a standard 120 VAC outlet.

Open the garage door and get a big standing fan to blow on yourself while out in the garage.

I was thinking this too. Those do need to be vented out a window or wall, but it is not as obvious as a window AC unit.

I'm thinking the OPs issue is he doesn't particularly want the doors wide open, but want some privacy.
Can you add a door or windows to the garage away from the street side, OP?

Yep. You can cut a 4-or 6inch ordinary dryer-style vent hole through the wall to connect one semi-permanently.

Right or in the meantime, just open the door a tiny bit. The moveable A/C units work great, if you work out there a lot, be sure to get one where you don't have to dump the collected water.
