For someone who's never been, which city is most similar to Dallas? (considering things like culture, growth, layout, transportation, shopping, sports, sprawl, density/urbanity, etc.)

I say Atlanta, both are huge airport hubs, inland with no port, diverse growing economies and plenty to see and do day and night.

I'd say Houston, in more ways than not... much as I hate to admit it!

Well Houston and Dallas are similar, they both have awesome economies, great people, lots of traffic, but Houston has the busiest port in America and Dallas doesn't have one. I think Houston would be a close second to Atlanta here.

I don't intend to get caught up in a p**sing match about this city vs. that city vs. the other city with anyone here... that's pretty much been done to death!

This was an opinion poll and I expressed mine, and you most certainly are welcome to express yours as well.

Seaport you mean. Airport is a different story:

"In terms of aircraft movements, it is the third busiest airport in the world. In terms of passenger traffic, it is the sixth busiest airport in the world transporting 60,079,107 passengers in 2006. In terms of land area, at 18,076 acres (73.2 km²),[4] it is the largest airport in Texas, the second largest in the United States, behind Denver International Airport, and fourth largest in the world."

Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I voted for Houston as well. I haven't been to Minneapolis or Kansas City, so I have less perspective based upon the choices. I absolutely hate Atlanta with a passion, so that was out... and I've only been to Charlotte once and it was a snoozer.

The best choice would have been 'none', and that's why we're here... cuz there's no place quite like it.

Dallas is unique - there's no place like Big D! Therefore I didn't vote.

I have been to every city on the list and it's really not like any of them. It's especially nothing like Minneapolis or KC. If I had to pick one I guess it would be Atlanta, but like I said it's not like any of them.

There needs to be a "none of the above".
