We are renting in Frisco currently but have started looking at houses to buy. Frisco houses are just so expensive. Yes there are some in 200s, 300s but those houses are old, in horrible condition begging for renovation. We haven't looked much in Plano but are houses generally cheaper in Plano compared to Frisco? I am not comparing neighborhood to neighborhood, but talking about overall Plano vs Frisco home prices.

Ummm, you can find 90's/2000's houses in Frisco in the 200's, just won't be big and fancy. Houses in Plano in that price range are going to be older, usually 60's/70's houses with a few 80's/90's.

It really depends on the area, but yes, generally cheaper and older and even more in need of renovations. The exception is large portions of the west side of town (generally south of Frisco) where those will be more expensive than Frisco, regardless of age. The cheaper & older houses will be east of Ohio.

Those are both desirable suburbs to be looking in. There are homes in the 200s in both, but they will be smaller and not new builds. In Frisco, you might look in the Plantation subdivision or Preston Vineyards in 75035.

In 75034, you might look in Stewart Creek Estates - if you can find a Highland Home there for the high 200s, that might be good.

In Plano, the only neighborhoods I know of close to West Plano in that range are El Dorado Park and some of the neighborhoods off Ohio. 75075, 75023 and 75074 will have options in that price range, but they will be older.

You can also look in Allen and McKinney. You can probably find something newer in McKinney for that price point (75070 zip code).

You have it backwards. According to Realtor.com, the average home price in Plano is $360k, and the average home price in Frisco is $325k.

Plano has the better school district and is closer to Dallas for a shorter commute for those who work downtown. For a comparable house in both cities, that adds up to about a 30-40k premium for the Plano house over the Frisco one.

If you want your budget to stretch a bit further, then check out McKinney. It's not nearly the bargain it was 5 years ago vs Plano or Frisco, but a comparable home will still be a bit cheaper there.

Plano may have a few more houses under 300K than Frisco(both have over 200 on the market), but that is probably because Plano has been established much loner with more people that have been in their homes for decades.
