Hi everyone. I currently live in Salem Oregon. My mother and I would like to move to The Colony Texas, but my father is not convinced yet. If anyone who lives in or around The Colony would post on this thread and tell me what it is like. My dad is convinced that there is 110+ degree weather everyday and thats what he dislikes. So if you could tell me about the city, things to do, real estate, schools, weather, and anything else that you can think of that would be amazing. Thank You!

It does get hot in July and August, but that's what AC is for. It will reach triple digits in the summer in direct sunlight.

Not a whole lot to do there, some private golf courses, some shopping, near the new Grandscape.

How'd you pick The Colony out from all of the other suburbs in the area? Schools are mediocre, traffic is a nightmare on 423 (and will be for another 2 years or so) and in general the area is meh.

The Colony is just a small blip on the map smack dab in the middle of Frisco, Little Elm, and Lewisville to the West and Carrollton to the South. It's a "city", yes, but only in name as all that area just blends together.

I would rather stay in Oregon but heat is manageable here. Not a lot to do if you compare it to Paris or NY but people find things to make it pleasant.

The Colony is doing well now and if you buy a house, it's bound to appreciate in price over next 5-10 years.

It depends on what your needs are. If you have kids, I would not recommend The Colony, as schools are not that great. Real estate is on cheaper side but everything is older and on a cheap side. It is hot here during summer but it is manageable with ACs. If you are set on Texas, I would recommend looking at other cities around such as Frisco, Mckinney, Allen....

There are no private golf courses. There is one nationally ranked semi-private and two other public courses. There is also Top Golf if you want to count that. There is "some shopping" on one end of city with Grandscape development and when you cross the street, you are all of a sudden in Frisco where everyone's opinion on the area suddenly shifts to borderline utopia.

The Colony is a small place...borders a lake, 121, and Frisco. Are there homes built in 1970?? Yes. And there are also new construction homes over 1M. There is construction on 423 that creates longer than typical commute times....but I guess having to deal with the pains of growth isn't all that bad.

If you have an option look in Frisco area. I think City of Colony has been struggling with finances, things have improved a little bit with commercial construction in the area. I don't think it is very attractive place for living.
