Hey, first post on here. So I got a nasty red light ticket from a Plano officer and went to the City of Plano Municipal Court the next day (yesterday). They told me since I had already taken a defensive driving safety course (for a nasty school zone citation), that I could not take another defensive driving course, unless I took the deferred disposition. This is as follows: 90 days probation on my license as a CORE requirement and then additional requirements of a defensive driving safety course and to attend a red light class. My question, that I have forgot to ask while at the court house, is does that probation hinder my job (I'm a delivery driver for Domino's). Also, if I finish the driving safety course and the red light class BEFORE my probation is over, does that end my probation period, or does it just continue until the period listed on the sheet I signed? On another topic, I read somewhere on here that probation on your license basically means, "Stay out of trouble and wait until the ticket wipes from your record and you're good." Someone then replied to him saying that you can get "into trouble", you just can't get in trouble for the same thing (in my case, running a red light again). Thank you for your time.

You should be able to drive with deferred adjudication. What it basically does is defer any punishment for ticket until you do not get any additional tickets during the period of deferral and assuming you complete the course required. I am more familiar with houston deferred adjudication process than plano.in houston you have to not break any laws during adjudication period not just avoid the same violation or even just avoid another traffic violation. Another option is hire an attorney to fight the ticket, I am not aware of how successful that is in plano but it worked in houston.

^^This. You can't get into any trouble during probation, period. Also, after 90 days, you have to turn in the paper certifying than you did not get another citation. If you forget to turn in, the violation will appear on your record.

Usually they give you some paperwork that explains all the details/rules of the deferred adjudication. Did they not give you something at the courthouse when you signed up for that?

So you were given deferred disposition in addition to another penalty (taking another defensive driving course. The deferred disposition is the probation. You don't need to do anything for that -- just do not get ANY vehicle-related infraction of any kind within the 90 days, including expired registration, etc. The guidelines are on the white paper the court clerk should have given you. As for the defensive driving course, you know (since you have done it before) that you must submit the completion certificate by a certain date as outlined by perhaps a second paper you should have been given by the court. I have done both myself (not at the same time) and I have never had my driving restricted. I don't see why you can't still perform your job with Dominos. To be clear, the deferred disposition (aka probation) ends on the date stated and NOT when you complete your defensive driving class. They are, in my opinion, two separate and independent tasks to complete with different dates attached to them.
