Don't be fooled. Dallas City Council is handing your money out to cronies, including sports teams. Just not the Cowboys and not the Rangers.

You don't spend 500 million dollars to help one large business. You use it to help a large number of smaller businesses.

If you can't find a better use for the money, you don't spend it. News flash: Arlington does not currently have that money. It's not like they've got half a billion dollars just sitting in a passbook savings account and they wish they could get a better return on it. No, they will borrow the money, and then they will pay it back with interest, using the taxpayers' money. They have a choice not to borrow the money, and then not to spend the money they haven't borrowed.

But, as a property owner in Dallas, I certainly would prefer Arlington taxpayers' money be spent on this boondoggle than mine.

Shouldn't the club finance it's own stadium? How come public money be involved?

Because one team owner successfully negotiated for it at some point and clued the rest of the cartel into how easy it was to get other people's money to finance their own pursuits. After that, it became standard operating procedure.

Wiki says the LA Coliseum was the first large arena to receive significant public funding benefit a sports team - in 1923.

The only thing I would say is forget all the "studies" and rosy projections, we already have a pretty comparable actual case; Irving. So how did they do after luring the Cowboys? Anyone see any booming around the Texas Stadium due to the Boys? Me neither. Case closed.
