We are moving to the Dallas area, but have no clue on where to go . My husband will be working in Mansfield but don't necessary want to live in Mansfield. He don't mind to commute to work. I want to be close to Dallas, my child will be starting to train in Dallas. I'm looking for a nice place that's close to Mansfield and Dallas. Schools are important I have two girls that will be starting high school this year I also have a child in middle and elementary school. I don't have a job lined up yet, I'm not to worried about work since I'm an LPN and I don't see me finding an job since nurses are in demand everywhere. I have a budget of up to about 1300$ for a 4 bedroom house. Any suggestions on a nice area that would be a nice starter place would be greatly appreciated. I like the city feel without necessary having to live in the big city. Thanks in advance.

I just moved here myself so I don't know a whole lot. But I would expect a 4 bedroom house for under $1,300 a month to be nearly impossible. Especially in a safe place, with good schools that's close to Dallas. Most 2 bedroom apartments I looked at were at least that much.

But maybe someone knows something that I don't.

I suggest Arlington in zip code 76017. But your budget will be a problem. Look on Zillow: Real Estate, Apartments, Mortgages & Home Values for rental properties. I can't think of a single burb with good schools close to Dallas that makes sense for your husband's job. Traffic is awful here.

Here's the problem: between Mansfield and downtown Dallas is not a desireable area. Southwest Dallas is notorious for high crime and poor schools. You would do better to just stay in Mansfield. Your budget may be too low for a house.

LPNs in Texas work primarily in nursing homes since most hospital here are Magnet. You shouldn't have a problem finding a job.

To put your wish list into perspective, Mansfield is one of the least expensive suburbs around DFW and the cheapest 4-BR rental there is listed at $1695. Mansfield is safe and has better than average schools. You are not going to find a 4-BR home for $1300 that is close to Dallas and zoned to good schools.

Also, what is your child training for in Dallas? Certainly Dallas is not the only place in the metroplex that his/her activity exists?

Smile Housing and School search

A good area to move to would be Carrollton Texas. You would have easy access to major freeways. And also tollroads. Since you have kids in elementary, middle, and high school, I would recommend The Hockaday School. One reason all three kids could go there. The teachers and staff are great. A wide range of activities that they can participate in. The school is very diverse which to me is very good has several languages they can learn. My daughter is graduating from there. A very good experience, she met kids from other countries, they also have community service that the kids participate I which looks go on their high school transcript. I hope you will give them a call. Good Luck on your housing search.

It would be an impossible commute between Carrollton and Mansfield where the husband works.

Are you insane??? This cannot be a serious recommendation! I highly doubt someone with a $1300/mo rental budget has an extra $120,000/ year for four Hockaday tuitions. Even if they got financial aid, getting 4 kids into Hockaday (all in the same year, and several months after admissions decisions were made) is damn near impossible unless you're the relocating Toyota CEO.

Can I have some of what the person who recommended Carrollton and Hockaday is smoking?

I doubt that the person who wrote things like "One reason all three kids could go there." [no verb] or "...they also have community service that the kids participate I which looks go on their high school transcript" is an actual Hockaday parent.

If the OP is serious (has never returned or asked any questions), you need to specify something other than "Dallas" which is a city that's enormous; and if you were using "Dallas" as shorthand for "a suburb of Dallas" the area gets even bigger.

If I understood that you have a child that is starting some job training in Dallas (again, not specified where, it's a long way from South Oak Cliff to Preston and Keller Springs), can you make the kid commute rather than your husband? Can the kid get an inexpensive apartment, maybe sharing with multiple roommates?

I don't understand why people don't look at a map before asking questions like this.
