Hello, I'm 25 and currently live in Central Florida, I've been toying with the idea of moving to NC for years, recently I was turned on to TX by my fiancee who is from the area and we plan on moving in the first quarter of 09.

I have a 2 year old daughter, work on a Ship and am gone to sea a month at a time and have 2 weeks off, my work pays for travel so I can live anywhere in the US of A, but preferably within an hour of an airport and 30 minutes away from a Mall for shopping.

I am mainly looking for friendly people, low crime, good schools, no palm trees, and a small town feel. Some pluses would include seasons, oak trees, scenery and good roads.

I've seen some great deals on beautiful houses for under 175k, some that would run over 500k where I live, but is there a city that might suit my situation better within 35-45 minutes of Dallas?

Some areas she mentioned were Dallas/Fort Worth Lancaster and Texarkana.

Thanks for the help.

Matt

We actually live in a new community just east of DFW, called Heartland. Crandall school district, which is known to be one of the best schools. We love it...smaller town and crime area.

Texarkana is a long way from Dallas, about 200 miles. I think you guys should make a trip to get a feel for this area and then decide where you would want to settle. The metroplex is 3500 square miles and a lot of options are available.

The further you go out of the city the more you get for your money especially if you are looking to get some land.

Texarkana and somewhere like Crandall would put you more than an hour from DFW Airport. Those places would put you far from LOTS of shopping but Texarkana would have more than Crandall for sure. Geez.

Anyway, yes there are a LOT of places in the Dallas Metroplex that would fit your needs. Shopping malls are all over the place here and you can be smack dab no more than 30 minutes away from something like 8 malls no matter where you live. I'd also recommend taking some time to come and explore the ENTIRE Dallas Metroplex and see which area suits you best as there are TONS of options.

Thanks for your replies, I've been a little busy lately but had time to get online tonight

We are planning on making a trip over in May or April, maybe sooner because we're really itching to go, unfortunately Tiffany (Fiance) has to accrue a little more time off from work.

We want to be far enough away to "get our moneys worth" , nab about an acre or two -max, and still within 30 minutes of the big city.

So, I guess I'm just trying to sniff out a good direction to start heading once I'm there.

Best regards,
Matt

Best value, I would recommend Royse City, Fate...you can get a home with a couple acres under 200K and still be within an hour to downtown Dallas but 15 minutes to Rockwall where you can have all the shopping, dining and lots of entertainement too.
