Hello,

Our son took Spanish honors in the 7th and 8th grade. He got 96 in the 7th and 99 in the 8th grade. Since these were honors classes, we understand that the grades will be counted towards high school GPA. How is the GPA calculated? Are his points averaged, in this case, 97.5, and then assigned GPA (4.5) or is the GPA calculated separately for each year and then averaged (4.3*.5+4.5*.5 = 4.4)? Thanks!

It's been a long time since I've done one of these, but I think each year is counted separately. It's not necessarily "averaged", it will be two separate items on the transcript (out of a long list of items).

So he'll have a 4.3 for "first semester" - 7th grade. and "4.5" for "second" semester - 8th grade.

Now that I've answered your question - please take a deep breath and don't worry about this too much (especially going into 9th grade). You're in for a long road!

Why not call the high school counseling office and ask them? They would know for sure.
