I paid 250ish a month for electric in Socal during the summer (1900 sq/ft, 1987 build). But at the most, the harsh part of summer was 2 months tops.

Most of the time the electric is about 100-150.

Not sure about gas as it was always too low to even be concerned with...

Funny you should ask... We had two A/C's, but the upstairs one was notoriously unreliable. It had a pinhole leak somewhere in the refrigerant line. We made through last summer with a couple of refills. My intention was to try and find the leak this spring.

I live in an older home (1965) (fell in love with the lot and the bones of the house) we upgraded insulation, windows, and AC. a little over 1700 sq ft my electric in summer is about $150-170 (keep it around 74 or 75) the rest of the year its about $70-80. cook and dry clothes with gas so I do have a gas bill between $40-60. total water bill in summer is about $85-100 8500 sq ft lot to water.

Our most expensive electric bill was this past August and it was a little over $800 I believe. That month hit everyone as it was pretty hot then, hotter than normal and DRY!

This morning on the radio they were discussing the flourascent light bulbs that you can replace incandescent bulbs with and one guy said he saved $50 the first month by just replacing them in 3 rooms of his house. Worth looking into.

There are only 3 of us...our house was built in 88 and has central air.
It is high, but normal for the area.

Everybody here has about the same, more for larger houses.

How much did it cost you to do the energy saving upgrades to your house? Would you please break it down if possible, eg. A/C, windows, insulation, radiant barriers.

We are also interested in buying in an established neighbourhood with mature trees, and will most likely have to do energy saving upgrades as well.
