Hello:

I am thinking about getting solar panels for the home, but I would like to know from you all that have them:

1) Typically installation costs?
2) Worth the investment?
3) Any problems, leaky roof, etc....?

Thank you!

Anyone that is looking at Solar as an option, and isn't looking at the Tessa solar shingles are nuts in my opinion.

I agree with this, mainly because of hail damage. In theory and based on testing, the newest solar panels on the market are more likely to withstand hail damage than the roof where they are installed. But you have to remove the solar panels to replace/repair the roof underneath so might as well buy the ones that are built in to roof.

I haven't done any hard math on how cost effective solar is here, but I know that in Texas the distributors are not required to do net metering, and without net metering I can't see how the math on solar panels works. If I ever did something like build a vacation home in a rural area, I can see the appeal of solar panels plus a few of the Tesla home battery packs. But more for reliability rather than cost savings. And even then, I would probably just consider installing a generator.

in a nutshell, in the last 10 years, solar has gotten only slightly cheaper,
BUT, conventional electric has DROPPED to HALF or less, for the LONG FORESEEABLE FUTURE
making solar NOT COST EFFECTIVE if conventional electric is available to the location.
