We have a bucket list of wishes as we search for the "right neighborhood" for us to live in. I realize that some of this is impossible together, and may not be what a typical person looks for when moving to that area, but guess that there is no harm asking, and seeing what this group can come up with.
So what neighborhood might fit us in the Dallas area? Our priorities are:
reasonable commute from uptown and the VA, safe, reasonable commute to a Montessori school, walkability (sidewalks essential). We do not need much space 2000-2500 sq feet (or so ideal), 3-4 beds would be good (4 ideal). Do not care about land. New (ish) construction. In fact, if generally acceptable/ available in the Dallas area to raise small kids in, a town home or a large condo is fine too, does not necessarily have to be a house (though resale may be a big issue with town homes/ condos there: I have no clue regarding that). (less maintenance=more time with kids philosophy).
Lastly accepting of different cultures, both race/ color and language is very important, since we fit that demographic.

edited to add: WE KNOW that fitting ALL these is not possible. I am throwing out ideal, with the hope of achieving as many as we can.

Large swaths of the M Streets or Lakewood that are walking distance to commercial centers will have most of this, just a question of budget.

You can get almost all of what you want as long as your budget is big enough....so, what's your budget?? The only criteria at odds is newish construction in the 2000sf range.

a Townhome (maybe Knox Henderson area) would fit the bill quite nicely.

Sorry can you be more specific about the commute? Does one person work in uptown and the other at the VA? Also, where is the VA location, bc I'm not sure which area of Dallas that would be in.

VA is in South Dallas - roughly loop 12 between I45 and I35.....not the greatest part of town.

I did just realize that DISD's Harry Stone Montessori magnet is adjacent to the VA. It's supposed to be a fabulous school and goes up to 8th grade. As with all DISD magnets, admissions are extremely competitive but could be a good option for the OP.

Most likely. Especially 800k. That's a pretty wide budget range you gave though....

Here are a few suggestions:

Kessler
Uptown
Knox/Henderson
M Streets
Park Cities? (don't know much about this area actually)

Lots of new construction going on in Uptown. A quick search shows that a 3 bedroom is within your budget, possibly some 4 bedroom. Also look in the surrounding areas, Oak Lawn could also fit the bill.

The good news is that for your budget, I think you will be able to meet most of your criteria, though newer construction will be more expensive and you may have to scale back to a 3 bedroom to get everything else you want. I think the West Village area would be a good place to start.
