"Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones joined his team's players in kneeling before the national anthem before their game Monday night at Arizona. They stood, with arms still interlocked, for the anthem."

That wasn't about the flag or about racism, that was about FU to Trump.

Which was about right.

I fully support this measure as it will separate the arguments about disrespecting the flag/vets from the true message of protesting the president and his attacks via speeches. Great job from a great organization. Thanks Jerry for showing other teams how to do it.

Except that this is not the message! The message is about RACISM and all the cowboys did was make this political.

Was kneeling during the anthem not political all this time before?

The president made the internal business of the football teams political. The government has no place demanding a private businessman to fire anyone.

This is like the most rational thread I've seen on the subject.

Every little step counts. This is 2017 for crying out loud, we should be able to differentiate between making a point and disrespecting the flag. Everyone has a right to kneel and pout in front of the their beloved flag, if mother nation's children can't complain to her then where else do you expect them to go? Riot on the streets?

Nobody respects police more than I do, in my eyes they are unsung heros, they deserve the respect and benefits which we only extend to soldiers, police and firefighters put their life in harms way to protect us every single day. However, they have a duty to respect all citizens and follow due procedure. If some of them start thinking that United States is a police state and they can treat citizens any way they want then they are not the right people for this responsibility. Same goes for our elected officials.

I thought it was a clever way to show solidarity with the other players in the league and to protest Trump's comments, without giving their detractors the opportunity to say they disrespected the flag.

Trump needs to quit tweeting about this subject. There's literally a humanitarian crisis going on in Puerto Rico right now, and yet Trump is so focused on NFL pregame ceremonies.
