Good Evening ,

I am contemplating moving to the Dallas area. Really don't know exactly where. Which communities are nicer and more livable , not a million dollars. I am a paramedic so I would be looking in that field. 911 only within a county or city. Any information is appreciated. Thanks

Way too vague. Budget to rent or buy? Things you like to do? Family coming with? You do realize the metroplex is bigger than a couple of N. E. states? How far a commute can you tolerate? Do you have a job lined up?

buy , $200.000 , fish , golf , competitive shooting , watching baseball and football. No children , just a girlfriend. Like I said I am more looking for a smaller quieter town / city. No job yet and commuting depends on where I land a job

Oh man...if you are looking for a smaller/quieter town with a budget of $200,000 I'm not sure if the Dallas area is for you. Maybe the far, far outskirts of Dallas? (see thread I started on Dallas forum called "Boundaries of DFW Metroplex" for ideas). You may need to look as far out as Sulphur Springs, or Tyler, perhaps.

Dallas Metro isn't smaller or "quieter", and $200,000 won't get you much, unfortunately.

I would look more on the west side of Fort Worth, or way more east, maybe Tyler?

Why have you chosen DFW? Honestly it sounds like someplace more in the SE would be a better fit...someplace like outside Greenville, SC, for example.

Exactly - I can recommend a hundred better places for OP's requirements than Dallas. Especially since his job can be pretty much anywhere and doesn't need to be Dallas specific.

I'd get the job first and then figure out where you want to live.
DFW is a big place.
I'm thinking a lot of the cities hire fireman/paramedics....not just paramedic...but not 100% sure about that.
Figure out what kind of action do you want.....old people, kids, new city, old city, look at the pension fund stability...look at the pay...look at the schedules....do you always want to be a paramedic or do you want growth? L
For example it might be tough to be a captain in an old department.....there will be cities that 10x their growth in the next 10 years...so do you want to be in on that for a better schedule or advancement?
I'd go North vs South, but plenty of options either way....Melissa, Celina, Prosper....I'd also look at DFW Airport for a job.

Most cities here use their fire dept for EMS, so they hire firefighter/paramedics. The notable exception is Fort Worth who has MedStar EMS. MedStar hires paramedics. Also, some hospitals hire paramedics to work in their ER.
