Cant decide between Denton and Lake Dallas. Looking for NICE Texas people, not transplants or stuck up yuppies. But dont want complete rednecks either. ( I saw Deliverance!) (LOL) Want to have access to the metro are but not be in the metro area.

I wouldn't consider Denton or Lake Dallas to be "small southern towns". How did you narrow it down to those two?

Will you be commuting anywhere? Do you have a need for good schools? Budget?

The closest friendly small southern town to DFW is Tyler in East Texas.

I am an ESL teacher and am used to long commutes, so commuting distance really isn't such an issue. I'd like to spend between $150K and $250K for a house. My main concern is finding friendly people, and a safe, low-tax neighborhood within about an hour's drive into the metro flex. Thanks for your advice! I'll consider Tyler, too. Anybody heard anything about Lubbock?

Lubbock is a western city and nowhere close, 314 miles away.

Lake Dallas/Corinth/Hickory Creek are essentially just Southern Denton anymore....
