I would like to add that Plan II Honors and Business Honors (BPH) are indeed very selective and high acchievers usually congregate there. They refuse free rides at UTD in favor of these programs.

Those stats are definitely skewed by the fact that UT/McCombs from a high school perspective only looks at class rank. They take the top 1-2% from public high schools. For example, my 2 cousins from a middle of no where high school with medium grades and medium SAT scores and no activiites, they all finished 1 or 2 in their class. Accepted into McCombs. I, on the other hand, had a 4.0, a 1510 on my SAT, and a resume full of activities and volunteering BUT I was only in the 4% of my high school. Not accepted into McCombs. I transferred in after freshman year. I knew before applying that is how it works though so it is what it is. Who did better once we were there? Well I still had a 4.0 and they were both barely scraping by.

When I went to the business honors tour my junior year of high school, they flat out said they really only have time to admit based on class rank at public high schools. Granted, this was all 15 years ago, but I would assume it's the same or harder.

From what I hear in our district, McCombs accepts most 10%ers but Plan 2 Honors and Business Honors are more selective and holistic so along with higher rank, they also look at rigor, extracurriculars, leadership, standardized tests etc. Obviously they do consider diversity and hardship when making holistic decisions so some of their admits may not have resume to match others but they do have demonstrated potential.

Like I said this was 15 years ago, but no one outside the 2% was admitted to McCombs. They usually post that statistic somewhere as well. I don't know how it is today.
