We are a couple who work in healthcare that are moving down from Pittsburgh. I'll be working near Duncanville and my s.o. will be at UT Southwestern and we are trying to find places that would work for both of us and keep the commute to less than 30 min for either of us. While we are looking at places in Uptown area (since all the recommendations we have gotten thus far tell us to go there)...we don't really need to be right next to restaurants/night life and prefer more space and a more chill vibe if anything.

We have narrowed down our search to a few areas but wanted to hear some insider perspective of these areas. Anything good or bad appreciated. Also appreciate any suggestions at other places to consider.

Oaklawn
Design District
Victory Park
Trinity Groves
Bishop Arts/Kessler

Thanks!!

There are MANY, MANY threads on these neighborhoods on city data. I would start there and then come back with specific questions. You said you don't need to be right next to nightlife and prefer space but all but Kessler Park are entertainment districts out of your short list above.

In general,
Oak Lawn: the "gayborhood of Dallas". North of Lemmon feels more like Highland Park (upscale city enclave), Cedar Springs west of Oak Lawn is the nightlife district. West of the tollroad is not Oak Lawn although realtors will try to call it that.

Design District: tons of apartments, where young professionals who can't afford Uptown live. Easy access to 35. Growing area for restaurants and nightlife. Not sure where the closest grocery store would be though- definitely across 35.

Victory Park: in transition after original development bombed by being too "destination" oriented and not "residential". Getting its first grocery store soon. Lots of traffic when the AAC has events.

Trinity Groves: this is a small entertainment district.

Bishop Arts/ Kessler Park: Bishop Arts is the downtown/ entertainment district of North Oak Cliff. Kessler Park is the most expensive part of NOC and has expensive historic and modern homes. Beautiful terrain, somewhat hilly for Dallas with winding streets.

West Oaklawn has some brilliant townhomes and duplexes going up at decent rents (and sale prices)

You're a bit of an urban pioneer, but the payoff in 5 years will be decent.

What's your budget? Do you want new, old, low rise, high rise, buy or rent, price range?
Do you want a house or apartment or private condo?
To me all of these places are options for you, but depends on what type of place you want and how much you want to spend.

For example in Design District, pretty much all rentals all probably built in the last 5 years. Some restaurants now, but no grocery store I can think of. You'll be shopping in Oak Lawn probably.

Budget around 1500-2100. Rental only.
Hoping for a 2BR but ok with 1BR.
Apartment/townhome type place and low-rise preferred but willing to consider high-rise.
