"Matin Azizi-Yarand, a high school student, was arrested for making terroristic threats to carry out his plan of committing a mass shooting at a local mall and for soliciting other individuals to assist him in the mass shooting attack. Azizi-Yarand was inspired by ISIS to conduct this attack, which he had planned for mid-May."

VERY. Big thank you to the FBI and local law enforcement for arresting him! A Plano Senior High student planning a mass shooting at Stonebriar Mall hits a little too close to home (well, close to work for me).

Eh. This stuff happens. Think about how many people died on the DFW area roads over the past month. You'll get killed by a car ten times over before anything like this ever impacts your life. Why aren't those deaths "soooooo scary"? Dead is dead.

Mass Shootings are very different from a car accident

Yeah. The speeding jerks on the tollway and 35 are much more likely to kill you than a mass shooter.

I am impressed of the authorities that caught this kid. One for the good guys.

Default Plano West student tried to commit mass shooting in Stonebriar mall

A Plano West Senior High School student was arrested on suspicion of making an ISIS-inspired plan to commit a mass shooting at Frisco's Stonebriar Centre mall with help from others, authorities announced Wednesday.

Matin Azizi-Yarand, 17, faces charges of making a terroristic threat and criminal solicitation of capital murder of a Texas peace officer. He was taken into custody at school on Tuesday and transferred Wednesday to the Collin County Detention Center, where he is being held in lieu of $3 million bail. If convicted, he faces up to life in prison.

Authorities say Azizi-Yarand was planning to carry out the attack in mid-May. He had sent more than $1,400 to others to buy weapons and tactical gear. He had also written a "Message to America" explaining his reasons for the attack.

The teen discussed his plans during online communications with FBI confidential sources and an undercover employee, mulling over attacks at a school and a Hindu temple before settling on Stonebriar Centre, according to the probable cause affidavit. He told the sources that he had learned the layout of the mall and had been observing patrons and security there.

During one conversation, he stated: "I'd actually like to make a cop surrender and drop his gun // then douse him with gasoline and burn him // record it."

Yet another terrorist from Plano West!

Yes, they're called "terror" attacks for a reason. Car wrecks are 99.9% "accidents". Big difference.

I'm thankful that FBI thawrted his dreams. One more reason for our POTUS to show some respect to our intelligence community. However, access to weapons is so easy in this country that any crazy person can end dozens of lives at any given moment. We need to make it difficult for mentally ill people to follow up on their crazy ideas.

We also need to take measures to control speeding and minimize car accidents as well. Its a fact that cars kill way more people every year than highly infectious epidemics of yesteryears.

Topics of gun control, mental healthcare and public transport should be discussed with people who want our votes for 2018 and 2020.

We should also improve state of counseling in our public schools and colleges. Every year teens who are depressed, may not do mass shootings but they do commit suicides and homicides. We need to support our youth and not let them fall through the cracks.

I was with you till the crack about another terrorist from Plano West.

Plano West produces National Merit scholars not terrorists We have bad apples everywhere - the next could very well be from 'gasp' Frisco or Allen or God forbid, Highland Park! What does his school have to do with his ideology?
