We have friend who developed pneumonia this past fall---after getting bout of the flu--
Took a long time to get rid of it
In our opinion, her GP was not on top of it--didn't give her right dose/kind of antibiotic and was pretty passive about how he treated it
Never recommended she see a pulmonologist

She had several "suspicious" X-rays, one indicating a suspicious pancreatic "node" or shadow--
She had an invasive proceedure to biopsy that--negative
She had an X-ray about a month ago that showed a "suspicious" mark on a lung
The GP said the radiologist report recommended further investigation
He sent her to oncologist who deals with lung cancer
That specialist said thAt the reports Witten by the radiology clinic her doctor sent her to were useless because didn't even say if the latest "suspicious" area was in lung or pancreas
he would have HIS radiologist review her past reports which added to time to make decision
That radiologist said needed PET scan
They did PET scan
The area showed "hot"
Did biopsy
Biopsy came back negative for cancer
But the lung oncologist said he thought it should be excised because he didn't know why it read "hot" on PET scan
Well, I googled after the pET scan result and there are reasons why your lung or other areas can have false positive PET scan 'hot" flares

I think she needs a second opinion on this
Her daughter who is paranoid about her mother's health since her dad died about 15 yr ago from heart attack is pushing hard to get surgery and take it out
This woman is 71
Basically good health but has some heart issues--been on medication for decades
But not sure exactly what
And had breast cancer in one breast ----very early, encapsulated--
Had a double mastectomy to deal with that but no radiation--nor recommended

Anyone know a good pulmonologist--

Dr. Loftin at Baylor Frisco. I have been seeing him for close to 7 yrs, very nice, good staff, easy to get to. Excellent training (I always check).

Would that be specialist you would recommend someone go to for second opinion about why that spot on lung showed "heat" during PET scan???

Her oncologist recommends having it excised eventhough the biopsy came back negative for cancer--
He didn't even want to do a second biopsy for different sample or wait to check growth in month or 6 weeks

Dr. Mark Millard with the Texas Lung Center, (214) 824-8521, affiliated with Baylor University Medical Center. My father had COPD and Dr. Millard was his pulmonologist from the time of diagnosis in 1996 to his death in 2005. Dr. Millard is an expert in the field and regularly appears on health segments for both KTAX (NBC) and WFAA (ABC). If, for whatever reason, Millard can't see her, the other pulmonologists at Texas Lung Center are good also. I used a couple of them when I was first diagnosed with asthma in college.
