Looking forward to the State Fair of Texas. Definitely looking forward to some fried unhealthy desserts. Never been to this one but heard good things. Has anyone?

Every school child gets a free ticket for "Fair Day".

Those few of us native Dallasites who still exist have spent many many hours there. As a young boy it was always the automobile building and the Midway; as a little older boy I always liked the livestock buildings (I mean, how can you not like a whole building named "Swine"?) - being a city boy, I never saw these critters up close except at the fair.

I suppose they don't have the freak shows on the Midway any more.

Seems like my mother was always working on that day so my grandmother would take me down there on the bus (they put on a special "crosstown" bus for the fair). Come to think of it, I guess she had to take a vacation day to go, but maybe she could do so more easily than my mother.

I've been to a couple of different states state fairs and I'd rate it 'average'.

The vast majority of native Dallasites have attended the Fair. It’s a pretty big deal for us in North Texas. Here’s a recap from the 2016 State Fair.

It's been over 10 years since the last time I went. The auto show was always a draw for me, seeing the new fried concoctions as well, and I would always find the vendors selling a turkey leg or sausage on a stick. Parking has gotten worse over time, it's worth it IMO to spend money for valet parking.

It's a good thing to do if you have family in town who have never been, seeing Big Tex, etc.

I'm used to the Meadowland Fairs in NJ and this one has allot that one didn't. As for the car show, live stock, variety of foods, etc
