Living close to public amenities—from parks to grocery stores—increases trust, decreases loneliness, and restores faith in local government.

Is this something of value to you or your family? How far do you live from these amenities?

This is something of high value to both me and my wife. Then again, we tend to always prefer urban environments and have lived in NYC etc.

When moving to Dallas, I spent a lot of time researching and settled on the M Streets near Mockingbird Station. Walkable and bikeable to a lot, there was a sense of 'community' in the bars, coffee shops, etc. in the area and it was near public transit. It really helped cultivate a positive experience in transitioning to Dallas.

After over 3 years renting there, we just bought by white rock lake. This is about as far away from the 'city' we wanted to get. While it is not as urban, We were very picky and still ended up with a pretty good setup: we are a mile from a library, less than half a mile to a coffee shop, less than a mile from white rock trail, a couple miles from white rock station, within a mile of a grocery store etc.

I would always rather have a smaller house with a smaller yard to be able to live close to the city center and walkable/bikeable to amenities. Just our preference.

This is also something important to me. I grew up in the Oaklawn area of Dallas and now I live in NW Dallas. I appreciate how accessible everything is.

Library - 5 minutes
Grocery store - 5 minutes
Park - 2 blocks from my house
Airports - 15 minutes
Hospitals - 5 minutes
Movie theater - 5 minutes
Mall - 10 minutes
