Thank you very much friends for the replies! This is really insight full and helpful.

@Katana49, Thanks for the link. I'll definitely check on Highland homes.

@Skipitto, for you statement on the garbage, is there something you can point to. I mean even if I look into the Coppell or Flower mound, I might have to think on those points for the home.

Really appreciate your responses. This forum is awesome!!

Frisco ISD is talked about a lot on these forums, but it's not the only good school district out there. I think there are just a lot of people who live in Frisco on this Dallas forum, so it seems like Frisco is the place to be. There are areas closer to Irving with good school districts. Have you looped at Coppell?

Exactly. Even IF Frisco schools were really better than Coppell or Southlake, it wouldn’t make it worth driving this far, twice a day, every weekday.

You'll see a lot of substandard lumber being used, some of which will be so fresh it'll still be leeching sap (most people panic and think it's mold). You'll also see VERY shoddy tile/trim work, borderline foundation pours and overall attention to detail significantly lacking. Here was a sample of what my friend had to have corrected:

1. Wrong AC unit installed, which was undersized and would have burnt out quickly.
2. AC plenums not adjusted to balance airflow, one section of the ductwork not connected to the system.
3. CO monitors not actually wired in.
4. Rodent screens missing on all attic vents.
5. Missing flashing on roof vents.
6. Multiple attic joists and beams that were too short with a gap between filled in with a shim or just extra nails.
7. Wrong mix on the grout leading to significant color variation and cracking after only 2 weeks.
8. Tile laid in the wrong pattern. It had a "grain" and they paid no attention to this.
9. Bowing in firewall between garage and study. 2" of deflection. Incorrect drywall used.
10. Missing two hose spigots on the exterior plumbing, which he had paid for.
11. One bathroom framed incorrectly, and was 6" too short to code in parts of the shower area.

If you're hell-bent on new construction, you'd better have a three stage inspection done.

I heard the new homes in Coppell are small in size and does not have good value for money. (Please correct me if I am wrong)

For Flower mound I heard that the land is unstable. (again pls correct me if I am wrong)

If you are 100% focused on new construction, then - yes, Coppell will be higher $/ft. That doesn't make it a bad value, when you factor in your time and energy and commute costs.

Land all across the DFW metro is "unstable", in that it is very expansive soil. You have to maintain your soil moisture around your foundation to keep it consistent. Doesn't matter where you move for that.

You may want to avoid towns located over Barnett Shale.

My opinion only: no house is worth 3 hours a day in a car to get back and forth from, especially when there are equally nice houses (and locations!) 15 minutes away.
