I'm from San Diego, contemplating a move to Dallas. I don't mind the heat (I used to live in Vietnam), but the possibility of bleeding nose and allergies that I've read about on this board kinda scares me. Is it really that bad?

Bleeding nose, no. Blowing your nose until you nose and upper lip are raw, yes. I'm a native, I've always had allergies, I've spoke to so many people who never had allergies until they moved here. I've found most allergy meds, both RX and OTC to be ineffective, so I just bear with the allergies.

We moved to Texas from southern California when my daughter was 5. She had allergies in CA and still to this day, 30 years later, she has them in Texas. She blows her nose constantly and the poor girl sounds like a foghorn. I guess she inherited it from her dad as my son and I don't have a problem.

I've had allergies all my life as a Native Dallasite as has my dad. My mother and sister were not so bad at all. My husband has very mild allergies (I say he is allergic to hops and only has severe allergies after drinking too much beer). Of my two kids one has asthma and allergies year round. The other one barely needs a Benedryl twice a year. Just depends on your own system and what you are allergic to.

I've never had a problem with them wherever I've been...

one of my sisters had all sorts of problems with hers in Houston, but they cleared right up when she moved back to Dallas...

But...by the same token, one of my brother-in-laws has a terrible time with his, but his parents say he always has...and his son has a pretty bad time with them as well...

so in other words...I've got nothing for you...

sorry for wasting your time!!!

Mine are better already. It could just be that my Allegra started working. I had about 10 days of hell, but I'm good now

Neither DH (native) nor myself (transplant) have allergy issues.

I have lived in several parts of the world and have never had allergies. I started having allergies in Texas about 4 years ago (been here 13). Claritin is my best friend... I had the same symptons as a cold, the runny nose, stuffy head, etc... The last 2 years have been worse, the eyes itch and the claritin drys everything then I have to put eye-drops...

I only have allergies when I'm in TX. When I moved to MA, all my allergies suddenly stopped. I think it's the cottonwood and cedar mostly.

I'm a native to the area and I didn't develop allergies until my mid 30s. Mountain cedar and short grasses.
