Would you consider this as damaged? I overlooked thoroughly cleaning the electric cooktop's ceramic surface to shiny smooth when the apartment (Coppell area) was vacated. Now I see a charge for nearly $500 and mgmt is claiming this as "damaged" and asking for replacement cost.

Am I wrong to think of this as overcharging; happy to pay appropriate cleaning charges, but I am not sure about this.

Did they even attempt to clean it? Or are they just saying it's "ruined?" Would they let you go try to clean it yourself before you pay $500?

This is very normal. This shouldn’t be replaced. Cleaning it should be sufficient as with any cooktops.

It’s hard to tell if that’s just dirty or if the surface is corrupted. If you rub/drag pans across the surface enough the surface will get scratched.

This is very common. Yes I’d consider it damaged.

I am very certain the surface was not physically damaged and what shown in the picture was cooking residue. Apt folks say they cannot show the unit for inspection.. (unit is still vacant!).

Yea. Just now got a better look on my computer. That really does look like pasta/rice boil over or similar. Maybe call them up and ask them to justify the $500 in efforts to negotiate the number down to $150 or so.

Good luck.
