I’ve been renting in Dallas and want to buy a home now. Criteria is a diverse school district that has decent scores. Home budget 350k max. Commute to Coppell (not that anyone has commuted in almost a year).
I’ve landed on Wylie, Mansfield, Little Elm, McKinney, and Bedford. Any of these sound great or terrible? Husband likes newer houses ( I know I know). 4 bed.
Thanks

The only one of those options that makes any sense at all is Bedford. And *maybe* Little Elm if you enjoy long commutes and expensive toll roads.

Wylie - 30 miles
Mansfield - 40 miles
McKinney - 35 miles

Regular DFW rush hour traffic clocks 2-3 minutes per mile. So you’d be looking at 1 hour drives on a good day. No to mention $8-10+ per day in tolls.

Your budget would go a lot farther in Carrollton or Farmers Branch with a much better commute time. Just a thought.

HEB would be my thought. When you say newer, how new does that have to be?
Mansfield can take me an hour from Coppell.
Same with Wylie.
McKinney is a bit faster for me jumping on 121, but then you're paying tolls every day.

Could someplace like Lantana or Hickory Creek work?

Grapevine fits your requirement, for diversity, commute distance to Coppell, and for good schools. So does the northern part of Euless which has GCISD schools. You will have to jump quickly to get a house for under $350, but it can be done.

There is absolutely no reason to commute from McKinney, Mansfield, etc. You’d spend a fortune in tolls, and waste 2 hours a day in your car. You need to And yes, not everyone is working from home in DFW. Traffic is still very real here, and once COVID is gone, it will be totally awful once again.

$350 for newer anywhere around Coppell is tough. I like Bedford but anything north of 183 in HEB.

Thanks everyone. My husband has been commuting from Wylie for years. And it is a strain for sure. But we would like good schools. Will Look into all the suggestions.

Can't go wrong with HEB. We had similar criteria to you when moving from Dallas and landed in north Euless knowing that Trinity High is one of the most diverse schools not only in Texas but the nation. Coppell is only 15 minutes away without traffic. Don't know how old your kids are but there are a ton of parks within minutes of us. We rotate between 3 or 4 of them.
