In this twitter thread, a guy compares major US cities with census blocks greater than 10k filled in.

If MARTA just looped vaguely around downtown Atlanta, maybe it would be superior. But where else are you going on MARTA? North Atlanta I guess...

You can see the red line in Dallas. IMO the most interesting thing about this chart is that Arlington is the most uniformly dense city in DFW (behind University Park) but since it has no public transport, it has fewer census tracts above 10k than most of the other cities on the Dallas side of the metro.

It also shows that the Cotton Belt is a decent idea. It's being built where the density is.

Meh, that Twitter feed is pretty weak on details. The crux of the issue the author raises is Atlanta and DFW are sprawling booming car dependent metros that need to gain density to better sustain mass transit.
Who knew?

MARTA’s next phase is to loop LRT around downtown Atlanta along the existing Beltline Trails.

In what ways is MARTA superior to DART?
The answer is it actually goes where people want to go (hits all of the critical activity clusters in Atlanta) and more importantly it has better service levels, 10-minute headways during peak periods as opposed to 15-minute headways on DART. Quite a few of the DART stations are poorly sited and inconvenient to their intended destination (Love Field and the Irving CC stations are great examples of this).

DART has great coverage on paper, but there's a few reasons that its ridership lags compared to what it should be given that great coverage. D2 should help by bringing those peak headways to 10-minutes. The system has a lot of potential but needs a lot more infill to really reach its potential.
