I'm looking at a potential job change to Plano, TX. Any areas that one should stay away from with regard to housing? Is commuting in that area an issue? What should somebody knew to the area know?

Plano is very large. Few “bad” areas. Lots of traffic congestion. Good humongous schools. Much of the housing stock is 20-40 years old, lots of lovely neighborhoods.

Why are Plano roads so bumpy or is it just me who notices that every time?

The traffic there is horrendous, especially around that Legacy area.

I don't anticipate safety concerns, but you may want to think twice about that move. The whole area is so crowded already and is seeing a massive flow of people from out of state. You will likely face extreme difficulty finding a place. I would say it's not a good time to be considering moving if you don't absolutely have to.

If an opportunity presents itself, I'm moving. You try living in a blue state like California as a conservative.

I understand, but please be aware that Plano has become kind of "purple" and if anything trending toward the blue end of the spectrum.

Eyeroll

Might I suggest Abilene or Lubbock if you want a red "city"? All the true urban areas, including Dallas, are predominately blue. Living in close quarters with your fellow man tends to provoke empathy.

LOL! I hear you and sympathize with your plight, but you've waited a bit late. California has been that way for ages, everyone else in the nation just started doing their house panic shopping, and you are now looking at a large, densely populated urban center that is mostly Democrat-voting in a county that has become almost 50/50. I live in McKinney, and it's getting bad but not as bad.

You may well find yourself running away to some place like Oklahoma or Mississippi in the near future for the same reasons.

If not though, we'd love to have you just a few miles north in McKinney.
