I’ve been searching through the forums and slightly overwhelmed so hoping people can help me narrow it down. Will be moving to start work downtown Dallas. Looking for a rental to start so we can get to know neighborhoods. We have 2 large dogs so need a fenced backyard and would like at least 2000 sq ft. And a single family and I’d like to stay around a 25 min commute to work (2100 Ross Ave).

We enjoy running and being outdoors and need to be able to walk our dogs out would prefer a neighborhood that has families.

I see recommendations for Lakewood area. Unfortunately not a lot of rentals available that would work. How is Buckner/Parkdale/east dallas? Any other areas we should consider that might fit what we need?

You may search 75218, 75228, and 75238 which are close to Whiterock Lake.

Yes what is your budget and do you have school age kids. Providing this information would really help narrow down your options.

I'd consider North Oak Cliff, if you know your job is likely to stay downtown. Most houses for rent in 75208 zip code will be in sub-neighborhoods that fit what you're looking for. If you find a really, really cheap rental marketed as being in "North Oak Cliff" - it almost certainly is in an area on the fridge trying to gentrify but not quite there yet. We just bought my mother in law a house in 75211 in an area that is nice, but you've got to stay pretty far north and east within the zip code.

I would avoid Buckner Terrace/Parkdale/south of I-30 since you're not familiar with the area yet. There are some decent places south of I-30, but it is a bit of a drive to a safe grocery store and shopping. As mentioned before, look in Lake Highlands and around White Rock Lake. The areas north of I-30 are generally safer and nicer. If you stay within DISD school boundaries, the rent will be a little bit less than in the Richardson ISD part of Lake Highlands.

Look on www.rent.com and www.zillow.com. And use the filters to screen out apartments. Most private Landlords with houses use those sites to list rental properties.
