There are constant gang wars in that part of town. I would stay out of that area if I were you.

Highland Village is a suburb with 15,000+ residents, off I-35 about 35-40 miles north of Dallas. It’s not a gated community.

Out of the whole country, how did you zero in on Highland Village, TX?

I hear you, and regret to say there are plenty of other options for that. It's starting to change, and I would be nervous about choosing north Texas simply for that reason. It's making me nervous living here myself. I have heard some of the suburbs around Houston are becoming more conservative. For the most part though, your best bet is going to be a more rural area.

I'm not sure why someone was posting that it's a bad area. It's quite nice and mostly large, older homes. I personally love the tall trees (by local standards) in that part of the metro area. I rarely ever see trees that tall anywhere else around here.

Highland Village should be very safe. I'm not sure if that other post is speaking of somewhere else.

Are you talking about the same Highland Village? The city just north of Flower Mound bordering Lake Lewisville?

For a conservative, Austin would not fit better. That's for sure. I don't think such a sweeping statement is fair about all north Texas.
