Received a letter on mail from my home security company requiring to upgrade my transmitter unit as it may not be connecting to their monitoring system. Talked to cust. support and turned out they have been sending out letters to all customers recently requesting the same.
Ran a test on my unit after talking to the tech and figured out there was no notification received on their end when the alarm went off.

On further inquiring, it was revealed the uplink transmitter that was installed on my property by them doesn't support 4G though the sticker on the unit specifically states Uplink 4500EZ 4G universal GSM Alarm Communicator. They claim that they recently found that out and hence requesting all customers to upgrade their unit free of charge but the labor cost of $59 through a different vendor.

Isn't it false advertisement and deceptive business practice? The rep said maybe that's why the vendor( Uplink) is no longer in business. But their website is still up and accessible. Not quite sure if the reps statement is true or they simply don't want to accept responsibility for their screw up. He said maybe they (Uplink) updated the case but not necessarily the internal components. Hence it's not 4G compatible. Seriously?

Any thoughts?
