I am looking to purchase a house from Taylor Morrison. Trying to find which option is cost effective in general -
  • Option 1: Choose Level 4 or Level 5 from builders that have contemporary colors. Kitchen cabinets alone cost around $6.5-7k
  • Option 2: Choose Level 1 cabinets and have them painted with contemporary colors. Cabinets would probably cost $1.5k or so. Wondering if anyone knows how much would the cost of painting be? And would the painting last long?

Appreciate any experiences or inputs in this matter. Thank you!

Are you implying the price disparity between Option 1 and Option 2 is the builder painting them "contemporary colors"? Usually the difference between Cabinetry Levels is cabinet design, type (shaker / inset / glass doors/ etc), and # of cabinets. Paint cost is marginal.

Actually, I have only looked at the catalog photos online which to me looked like a minor design variations but more color choices as level increases. So I thought it could just be paint that is making big difference.

Find out if the difference is just the builder painting the cabinets or if it's a factory-applied color. Painting kitchen cabinets is a tough thing to do well, and there are real durability concerns. I'd certainly rather hire my own professional painter than have the builder do it, but I'd pick a factory-applied finish over all of the above.
