I'm going crazy trying to find a reference to this...but I remember reading somewhere on the internet that Watermark Church was (or is?) actively encouraging its members with young kids to buy homes in the Mohawk Elementary (Richardson ISD) school boundary. I believe I read this around 2020 or 2021, around the same time that there was a small brouhaha with the RISD school board about library books. Does anyone know what I'm talking about? Or can confirm or deny that this is true? I've searched and searched and the story I saw is no where to be found. It might have been a blog post. Thanks!

It's true. I know people who live in that neighborhood and it's filling up fast with Watermark people. They are also colonizing other neighborhoods in 75080.

This is true. Most of the neighborhoods in 75080 (Reservation/Mohawk, Canyon Creek, Prairie creek, Heights Park, Waterview Preservation) are attracting the typical yuppie watermark type crowd.

Almost all of the open houses i've been too recently in that zip code it's the same pretentious style (farmhouse/rustic interior with letter boards in every room, fire pit in either the front yard or backyard, string white LED lights around the patio but you gotta make sure the string sags so it looks "cute").

Nailed it.

They have ruined those houses and the neighborhoods. They'll take the school board over next.

String lights, firepits, and letters hanging on the wall? Next you are going to tell me they like their family, football, and their family dog. The maniacs!

You’re all missing the OP’s point. “Watermark types” aren’t yuppies who idolize Joanna Gaines. They are unabashedly conservative Evangelicals who want Evangelical Jesus in public schools. If the church is encouraging it’s members to move to an area to gain local political influence, that’s a problem…and another reason churches probably shouldn’t be tax-exempt anymore.

I'm not sure you can say *all* churches shouldn't be tax-exempt. Mine leans liberal and is fairly apolitical, but you are exactly right.

Sure, that's a problem, but it's basically true of a whole bunch of evangelicals and true of the current governor, who is attempting to override protections from that kind of stuff at the government level. It's far larger than one neighborhood.

100%. It’s not just Watermark. Any church that resembles a political PAC needs to pay taxes.
