Connemara Conservancy is a nonprofit land trust that preserves open spaces in North Texas. And the very first piece of land entrusted to them is right here in our own backyard...a 70 acre natural open space on the borders between Plano & Allen called Connemara Meadow. In the midst of our busy and often chaotic suburban lives, it is a true gift that we have such a beautiful and tranquil piece of land to visit to reconnect with nature.

As most of you know, urban sprawl in North Texas has been steadily wiping out any remaining tracts of undeveloped land...leading to the concrete jungle most of us call home. But organizations like Connemara allow landowners to place easements on their land, to protect them in their natural state for generations to come.

The Connemara Meadow itself has been closed for the past couple of years to allow it to recover from decades of public use, but is planned to be reopened this fall. In celebration of this, and to promote the wonderful cause the Connemara Conservancy supports, a photography contest is being held, with the winner having their picture on the cover of Connemara's first ever calender! Please see attached link for details...

Contest is open to all, regardless of experience. Dealine for photos is August 15th. Also, a nature photography workshop will also be held at the Meadow on the evening of July 24 with local photographer Janice Eddington...if you want to fine tune your eye for nature before submitting a pic

I know someone who might be interested in this, the first link didn't work, and I didn't find info about the contest on the 2nd link (my eyes are tired ... been volunteering all day :-)

And if that doesn't work, then go to the second link on my original post, look for the NEWS section on the lower right, and go down to the fifth entry.
