Starbucks isn't being hurt by the economy that badly. What they are being hurt by is having 2 stores 100 yards apart. Not uncommon. On top of that, other companies jumped on the coffee bandwagon and started taking a large share of what was Starbuck's market. Most fast food places now offer premium coffee in large cups for cheaper than Starbucks. Also, Dunkin Donuts coffee totally kicks Starbuck's butt!!! Ever since I tried Dunkin Donuts coffee, I've never been back to Starbucks and probably never will!

Starbuck is about two types of shopping--impulse shopping like the magazines and candy at the checkout aisle--so they have to be close to influence people's spending choices which is why they are in two stores on opposite corners with another one in parking lot--
just by BEING there they encourage people to buy something...

secondly -- it's a bar for people who don't like to drink--the communal, home-awayfromhome place--they have Starbuck's
there are some people who go to one, stake out a table, and either read, text, or have their laptop and surf...and they stay there for an hour or more--regularly...
I don't get it but there are people who like Starbuck's
in my area there is a Christian coffee house--which I did not really see Starbuck's as the anti-christ or anything -- but that is in some ways a marketing ploy--

and they definitely went off the deep end iwth selling the franchises--just like Krispy Kreme--but people were stupid enough to buy into the fact that you COULD have several so close together and still make your profit margin...

Yep. I drove by this AM and saw the sign as well.

The place was packed last weekend.

It's my understanding that only two stores will remain open (franchises). The one in Irving and the one located near DFW airport.
