I've never been, I think its mostly a very young crowd. The only people I know that have been there were some former coworkers who were barely 18.

I went there several times when the Barrs owned it and it was nice (almost like a STARCK Club scene) - I stayed on the top floor. Not sure what is going on there in the last year.

Clubbing in Dallas is a joke compared to any of the big clubs scenes (Vegas, Miami, LA, Chicago, NY). Purgatory is a good example of how poorly a "club" experience is carried out in Dallas.

That said, I've been twice (was convinced to go back after I had a poor first experience) and both times I wanted to leave within 30 minutes of being there.

Purgatory sucks b/c the whole thing is overpromoted, and the crowd is really trashy.

-They make everyone pay cover to get in, even if you're above 21. In contrast, Ivy, Obar, and Iron Cactus, all up the street don't charge any cover, so the people that are 21+ go there.

-As a consequence, Purgatory is full of 18-21 newbies, 21+ trying to find fresh meat, and people who are looking for a fight, rather than a party.

-They let everyone in incredibly slowly, last time I waited almost 20 minutes outside, and the inside was deserted.

-The drinks are super expensive. Most expensive drinks in Dallas.

-Their bathroom access is awful.

Those are my objective reasons. My subjective reasons for not going is that I hate the vibe of the place, the crowd there is pretty trashy, and I think the whole 'floors' concept is pretty stupid.

Lakewooder, you're like 50 years old. You should not be at purgatory!!

Hey they whisked me on the elevator up to "Heaven" every time! No waiting in line! They recognize a raconteur and veteran of the Dallas nightclub scene going back to the pre-STARCK days of Flanigan's, Bijou, Circle Disco, H.P. Cassidy's, Elan and Confetti! Besides, the Barrs are one of those multi-generational Lakewood families I always bring up..

It may not matter to some, but the name of the club is misspelled on the thread header. It should be spelled Purgatory, not PERgatory.
