I just read on NBC5i.com that "Arlington is partnering with The Fort Worth Transportation Authority's T Bus Service to provide non-stop commuter bus service between the two cities. The expanded service is starting next Tuesday and will include two commuter lots in Arlington that will connect to the Intermodal Transportation Center in downtown Fort Worth." (Fort Worth Partners With Arlington To Provide Bus Service - News Story - KXAS | Dallas)

I think this is great news for the cities of Fort Worth, Arlington, and Tarrant County.

This is interesting, but the real need is for a transit link from Arlington to downtown Dallas.

That would make alot of since to have a transit link to downtown Dallas but that want be happening anytime soon. Tarrant county main focus is economic prosperity to Tarrant County not Dallas County. I really don't think Arlington residents want to be linked to Dallas because the city did deny DART from expanding into there city limits.

Actually, about 30% of the Tarrant county workforce commutes every day into Dallas county. Relatively very few Arlington residents work in downtown Fort Worth in its tiny office district.

The benefit of a commuter link to downtown Dallas would of course be access to an office district of 120,000 people. Also, DART rail would provide a connection to other work centers in Dallas such as along US75, the showroom district along Stemmons, etc.

Arlington voters did not join DART because they didn't want to pay for a bus system, and in order to pay for ego boosters like the Ballpark, etc. They do, however, want a commuter link to their work.

Im not so sure about very few Arlington residents commute to downtown fort Worth. Where that came from is beyond me because every morning during rush hour 20W and east loop 820 up to 30 west is very packed. Also 20 W to 35 north heading to downtown Fort Worth is also very packed. Sure Dart would be very benifical to residents of Arlington no question about but less not undermine the fact that most of Arlington residents commute to Downtown Dallas because thats a false assumption. Why else in that case would the T be providing bus transporation from Arlington to downtown Fort Worth.

The clogged freeways do not prove that the drivers are going to Fort Worth's downtown. It just means that there is some traffic toward the west.

In reality, the 30% of Tarrant county commuters that work in Dallas county are most likely from the eastern Tarrant communities such as Arlington.

Arlington is halfway between downtown Dallas and downtown Fort Worth. If distance is not a factor, why do you assume that Arlington residents would favor downtown FW? Do you see that they have an intrinsic hatred of Dallas? In reality, the job opportunities in downtown Dallas, and those accessible via DART from downtown overwhelm those in downtown Fort Worth.

A couple of busloads worth of commuters in the morning is not too significant, even if you assume the bus is entirely filled, which may not be the case. The motive behind the Arlington officials that authorized this may have been to just try a pilot program to get used to working with a commute facility. And the FW T may have been easier to try a pilot with than DART.
