Hello, I currently reside in Kansas City, Missouri and I've decided to move to Dallas. I've always wanted to move to Texas and decided that June will be the best time. My children range in age from 3 yrs -11yrs. I'm looking for a safe neighborhood with a good school district. I've decided not to buy a home just yet, so I will be renting preferably a nice size townhome, but I will settle for an apartment if it is a nice size and affordable. With that being said I'm wanting to rent at $800 max for a 3bd. Is that reasonable? Also any information would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Depending on where you want, $800 for a 3-bed is pushing it. Won't find a great area in Dallas for that amount.

You might want to check out surrounding areas...Lewisville, Grapevine, etc.

It would be very hard to find anything for $800. I am looking for my mom and recently saw some homes in the range from $950-1200. Honestly, $950 wasn't in areas that I would want to raise my family. If you are willing to pay a little bit more you can find some nice rentals for a little over 1000 to 1600 in safe areas with quality schools. Try looking at Craig List and Move.com Both of these sites can provide some insight to some rentals and what they have to offer. At least those are two sites I have been using to look for a place for my mom.

Some areas you might find some rentals in closer to your price range:
Parts of Carrollton (Carrollton ISD and Lewisville ISD), parts of Lewisville, and parts of The Colony. Matter of fact The Colony (part of the Lewisville ISD) might have some duplexes and small 3 bedrooms with 1 car garages in about your price range.

The best to you and your family.

Yep you get alot of bang for buck in Mesquite. That would be a good place to start your search.
