Hi everyone, Im a 27yr old AA female moving to Dallas from AR. My fiance is from London and we have decided on Dallas. I am looking for SOCIAL NETWORKING group as well as a great place to reside. I have done a little bit of research and have seen that Uptown is a great area for young professionals. Any suggestions on the best places to stay, Church, and social groups? We have lived in London, therefore used to the downtown/urban feel.

Use google maps and search for zip code 75219. This will be the Oak Lawn - Uptown area. The closer to downtown the more urban. There are a couple of streets near Pearl @ Woodall Rodgers @ US75, named State and Thomas. This is .... the State/Thomas area, was old homes and rebuilt as townhomes/condos/mixed. From there search as far as Oak Lawn Blvd to the northwest and Highland Park to the north. The entire area is in refurbishment. And along Maple, but make no plans for Reverchon Park unless you're reeeaaalllll adventurous.

You'll notice a green area, Lee Park, thru which an irregular strip runs. That is Turtle Creek, the principal geographic center of your new home. Northwest of Turtle Creek is Oak Lawn, east is Uptown, etc. There are several townhome/condo choices along McKinney and Cole from Pearl to Knox. There are a couple of hotels, The Melrose and The Mansion on Turtle Creek (I think is the name, you won't regret).

You'll find several churches the area and would probly satisfy the social agenda, considering the neighborhoods. Without knowing your biblical preferences it would be difficult to hit on a recommendation but several wildly popular denominations are available. European autos are highly acceptible.

Uptown is your best bet but don't expect Oxford Circus. Dallas is quite muted compared to London. South Dallas would be South London, East Dallas is East London, Uptown (fractionally) = Westminster , Turtle Creek = Kensington. Dallas is a cultural vacuum compared to London, but it way makes up for that in affordability, cleanliness and decongestion.

The Addison and West Plano locations are basically urban enclaves embedded in suburban locations. They are actually quite pleasant if you're used to walking.

The Addison location is known as Addison Circle. The West Plano area is known as Legacy Town Center. I don't have a website for Addison, but Legacy is Legacy In Plano - Legacy Town Center

Another town center is called Watters Creek. It has much residential, many shops and restaurants, and is about 20 miles north of downtown Dallas. Its website is Shopping Mall in Dallas | Shopping, Dining and Entertainment Allen, Dallas, Plano (http://www.watters-creek.com/index.aspx - broken link)

In addition to these, there are other town centers in the suburbs. Of course, if you do not have a taste for suburban distances from the city, you can find much housing in the Downtown/Uptown/Turtle Creek/Oak Lawn areas.

In addition to these

Couple of questions need to be answered first. Are you looking for a single family home or a townhouse/condo. Do you have any kids were school would be a concern. Do you want a urban or surburban lifestyle. What kinda of budget are allocating for housing. My point is that you need to be a bit more specific in order to narrow your choices. I can't offer any help for a church since it is such a personal choice. I will say Dallas everything to offer from mega-churches to smaller congregations. You will just have to visit them until you find something that appeals to you. More info please.

I've never been to London (would love to someday!) but am from NYC so I know about urban. I have to say - I get more of an urban feel from the Oak Lawn area than I did when I lived in Uptown. As a non-Caucasian person myself, I was disappointed at the lack of diversity in Uptown. I could go days and days (and I am a walker!) with the only dark-skinned person I saw being the UPS guy. Not so here in Oak Lawn. I see people of all colors and persuasions in my new apartment building.

Uptown reminded me more of a lot of suburbs I have lived in.

Default Moving to Dallas

Hi Welcome to Dallas

Uptown area is an excellent area to live at for young singel professionals.
Also, there is a church that is called Fellowship Church located there in the uptown area. It is a non denominational church.
A one bedroom in the uptown area is starting at about $800 to $900 and up.
Uptown is next to downtown Dallas. THere is a trolley (free) that can take you around uptown /downtown. There is a great shopping area also called West Village right in the heart of uptown.

Please let me know if you have any questions . I live in that area and know it well.
