I am relocating to Dallas from Houston and wanted to live downtown or near it with a great view..... But don't wanna pay high prices.....
----I have recently viewed a couple of places.... Not what I expected for the price.... 2220 Canton... really over priced .... Manor House downtown.... More reasonable but lack of room space....

So this is what I am looking for
a town home/condo/Loft ... over or near 1200sqft ....
Large master bedroom-- over 16x16
Large living room--- over 18x18

Help.....Please.... I need that rare find...

PS it seems like apts are getting more expensive in this recession...Last time I check people were loosing jobs....
someone always trying to take advantage of people on there back.....

You just mention the master bedroom. Does that mean you only need a 1BR or are you looking for a 2BR? How much are you willing to pay per month?

I might know of some places that fit your needs. I'm thinking of individually owned condos in buildings near downtown. But without knowing your desired price point, I can't really say if they would work for you. Send a private message if you prefer.

All decent areas around downtown are pricey. You can find cheaper places but they will either be 1) further from downtown or 2) in a bad area. Assume a minimum of $1,000 a month for a 1BR apt rental or about $200,000 to $300,000 for a 1BR condo.

Try the village apts, you may be able to get something bigger www.thevillageapts.com there for your money. I don't think you will find much for that size and budget in uptown or downtwon - A smaller 1BR apt in either (700-800 sq ft) will cost at least $1,000.

You might want to search around Deep Ellum, you can get a bigger loft place there for less money, although there is not much nightlife/restaurants/amenities there anymore.

OK, that's about $1 per sq.ft. That is do-able. The hard thing is finding something with the large rooms that you want. Loft style complexes are most likely to have that, although not all units will have clearly defined rooms. Some will just be wide open spaces. There are 3 places that come to mind for me:

Southside on Lamar (www.southsideonlamar.com) for rentals. It's just across I-30 from downtown in a funky/urban area called the Cedars. There is a DART station 2 blocks away from this building. The building is an old Sears Catalog store and warehouse. It is a huge building and they are known for having large apartments. Many will have downtown views.

The other 2 are condominium buildings, but there are often individual units that the owners want to rent out:

SOCO Lofts (www.socourbanlofts.com (http://www.socourbanlofts.com - broken link)) is in downtown on Jackson St. @ Griffin near the Federal Courthouse. This is pretty much in the middle of downtown Dallas and you can walk to lots of things.

Live Oak Lofts is located at 2502 Live Oak St. across from downtown just 1 or 2 blocks east of I-75. You can walk into downtown or Deep Ellum. There will be a DART station open within a block or so by the Fall of this year.

If you need any additional info, just ask. Good luck!

The cheapest places that I know Downtown is the Manor House Apartments and Camdens at the Farmers Market (I may have the exact name wrong). The Camdens are much nicer and I know they have units in your price range. I am not sure if they will be as large as you are requesting.

These are the cheapest loft apartments downtown. It's a nice building and convenient to everything.
